The Chiropractors of Solihull & Sutton Coldfield
We opened our chiropractic clinics in Solihull and Sutton Coldfield in 1998 and 1999. To us healthcare is not just about relieving back pain, neck pain, headaches arising from the neck preventing migraines or promoting good posture. Our mission is to provide excellent quality natural drugless health and wellness care for our community.
Our vitalistic belief is that we are all born with an innate intelligence which allows our body to heal itself, regulate itself and adapt to its environment, and the nervous system plays the most vital role in all of this. Most people come to see us because they are in pain or their health is impaired in some way. We look for the cause rather masking the symptoms with drugs and, as far as possible, prefer to avoid surgery. Our focus is on analysing your posture, shape and state of your spine to see how well it is working and what stresses are likely to result from any misalignment. We then adjust your spine by applying small precise forces to improve the way it moves and reduce nerve stress.

Our Chiropractors are all registered with the General Chiropractic Council and have all graduated with four or five year university chiropractic degrees which have trained them to practice safely, identifying and correcting spinal subluxations (spinal misalignments).
Annette O’Neill B.Sc. (chiro.) D.C.
Annette graduated from the AECC college in 1995. Annette didn’t know what it was like to not have a headache and left arm numbness, pain and weakness from the age of 11. When she received her first Chiropractic adjustment in her early 20’s and knew what it felt like not to have pain, the relief was amazing. She also knew she wanted to be able to help others feel better.
Nowadays Annette’s ethos and intention are to influence others especially women to keep connecting to the messages from there body whether it be pain or discomfort and to keep reaching for what feels good leading to optimal wellbeing and an authentic life.
Annette is happy working with people who just want pain relief or working long term to really reach optimal well-being. She also speaks to groups interested to learn about empowering optimal natural health and wellbeing.
Charles Sawyer B.Sc. (chiro.) D.C.
Charles graduated from AECC in Bournemouth with a B.Sc (Chiropractic) in 1995. He has a special interest in Chiropractic Wellness Care which encourages people of all ages to maintain their spinal health at all times, and not just when they have symptoms. He believes this is essential as poor spinal health affects the functioning of the nerves related to the back and spine. When our nerves are functioning optimally we are better able to achieve our individual maximum health potential.
Nick Sheeran B.Chiro. B.Sc. (physiology)
Nick graduated from the New Zealand College of Chiropractic and previously practiced in New Zealand, London and Glasgow. Having previously represented New Zealand in swimming at world championships and commonwealth games in Manchester, Nick takes a special interest in sports and in family chiropractic care. Nick’s aim is to help as many members of the community towards optimal health through looking after the spine and associated nerves.
Jerome Alderson B.Chiro. (NZ)
Jerome also graduated from the New Zealand College of Chiropractic and practiced in Ireland, New Zealand and Canada before settling down in Solihull. He is excited to help empower people of all ages to reach their health and fitness goals. Jerome is most interested in how chiropractic affects the brain.
Frequently asked questions
Some of your most frequently asked questions:
Is chiropractic safe?
The New Zealand Royal Commission (1979) found that chiropractic adjustments are “remarkably safe”, especially when compared to freely available drugs like aspirin and ibuprofen or surgery.
By avoiding these alternatives our patients minimise their risks. There has been recent publicity about the risks of stroke after neck “manipulation”. Research indicates that the risk is no more than would occur in the general population, not having neck “manipulation”. The same risk as having your hair washed in hairdressers, star gazing or reversing your car.
How often will I need to visit the chiropractor? How long will it take?
This varies with each patient, depending upon their problems, spinal status and their health or wellness goals. Generally the older the patient, the longer the problem has been developing and the more severe it is, the longer it will take. Many patients notice changes within the first few weeks when visits are most frequent.
As the spine starts to correct and stabilise visits become less frequent. In very chronic cases resolution may take months or years. Where the underlying cause cannot be eliminated it may never resolve, so the emphasis will be on symptom relief and slowing progression whilst keeping independent as long as possible.
What is a chiropractic adjustment?
An adjustment is a procedure used by a chiropractor with the aim of improving the function of your spine and relieving interference to the related nerves. This commonly involves the chiropractor using their hands to apply a very specific pressure or movement to the spine or pelvis. There are many different methods available, so the chiropractor will always adapt their technique to suit each individual of any age.
Do chiropractic adjustments hurt?
Very seldom. A small minority of people may find their symptoms change or increase temporarily after an adjustment, but the great majority of these go on to experience relief.
Am I too old or young for chiropractic?
Because of the very wide range of techniques available to our chiropractors we are able to care for all ages if appropriate. Obviously we will tend to use the gentlest of techniques on babies, small children and frail elderly people.
Can adjustments make my spinal joints move too much (hypermobile)?
Chiropractors only adjust joints that are hypomobile or locked up. Years of training focus on using the minimum amount of force needed to achieve this. Hypermobile joints are more likely to develop above and below uncorrected hypomobile joints resulting in spinal imbalance.
Is it cost effective?
A Canadian government (Ontario Ministry of Health) study to examine the “effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of chiropractic management of low-back pain” concluded that “there would be a highly significant cost saving if more management of low-back pain was transferred from physicians to chiropractors” and that sufferers tended to return to work sooner after chiropractic care. Studies in Australia and America have remarkably similar findings.
What makes the cracking noise?
Lubricating fluids are found between the surfaces of the spinal joints. Some adjusting techniques move these surfaces apart very quickly. A bubble of gas forms in the liquid due to a change in pressure making a “pop” sound. The same phenomenon occurs when opening a champagne bottle. This may sound very loud in the upper neck as the sound is transmitted directly through bone into your inner ear.
Are all patients adjusted the same?
No. With 24 freely movable spinal bones each of which can misalign in several ways each patient has a fairly unique pattern of misalignments requiring correction.
Does chiropractic work?
Consecutive studies of the British Medical Research Council have found that back pain sufferers are more satisfied with chiropractic care even years after treatment.
